THE GERMAN COLONY

THE GERMAN COLONY – Zone 4 – HAPARSIM St’– IN HAIFA

Commissioned jointly by the Haifa Municipality and Israel Lands Administration, as one of a sequence of 8 zones of the German Colony.
Detailed scheme for a historical urban area of approximately. 80 Dunam.
At the heart of this zone lies Haparsim St’, heart of Baha’i and church-owned properties, known as “The Persian Quarter”, designated in 2008 as a World Heritage Site for its outstanding universal value.
Work included a conservation survey and documentation of structures and of the urban fabric. Existing or additional building rights were examined, and an evaluation was made of the potential for balanced additional building volumes, all the while looking at conservation values as part of urban development.
